Ex-Mex (digital video, color, sound, 5:17 minutes, 2004).

“Ex-Mex” combines poster art from the “golden age” of Mexican cinema (1930s-‘50s) and original animations with footage from a decidedly ethnocentric and exoticizing 1930 American travelogue movie about Mexico and my own super-8 film that I shot on a trip to Mexico to visit an ex-boyfriend.  The film investigates the nostalgic, exotic, pathetic, and romantic bent of these images.
